What's Next?

What’s Next?
         One possible next step for my product would not only be targeting people who own guns and have children but also incorporating all people who own guns. This would not be a major change but it definitely will help me get more people to buy my products. Especially with all of the recent protests happening in regards to gun safety, I believe that now would be a great time to open up my product to anyone who owns guns.
Existing Market Interviews:
         Interview 1:The person I interviewed said that the next step for a venture like mine should be on working improving my gun lock. She said that if I have a product that works and that is selling that I should stick with it instead of trying to move on to other products that I do not have as much experience with.
         Interview 2:My second interviewee said that my next step should be moving on to other gun related products. He said that after my company has established a name for itself through the new gun locks, that I should use my brand name to try and sell other gun related products rather than just putting all of my eggs in one basket.
         Interview 3:My final interview was a lot like my first one. My interviewee said that I should really focus on my current product and trying to improve it rather than moving onto something else. He also suggested that I try adding features to my lock that could improve it in some way.
Reflection:
         After interviewing three people, I think I have a better idea of what should be my next step in my venture. Out of the three people I interviewed, two seemed to agree with each other while the third said the complete opposite of what the other two said. Despite this, I think I know what will be the best step for me next.
         Although two of my interviewees said that I should just focus on my current lock and try to improve it, I do not think this will be the best option. While it is true that I can always improve my lock or add features to it, I really do not see much of a future doing that. I think that when my lock releases, it would be pretty close to perfect and there will not be much I can do to make it better.
         So I decided that the best next step for me to take would be to create other gun related products once I have established a name for myself. I believe that this would have a much brighter future as opposed to sticking with my gun lock and trying to improve it. Hopefully by adding different products to my brand I will be able to make my company more successful.
New Market:
         A radically different new market that I could try selling my gun locks to would be the government and police forces. While there is not as much of a threat towards them since they have extensive training with firearms, mistakes always happen and it is always a good idea to have an extra line of defense. It could also be an effective way to neutralize the threat of criminals using their own guns against them.
New Market Interviews:
         Interview 1:The first person I interview said that this new market may sound like a good idea on paper but it may not work out so well in real life. While an extra line of safety is always good, he says that police usually have enough training that they would not need my product to defend them.
         Interview 2: My second interviewee seemed to agree with my first one in many ways. He said that he does not think that there would be much of a demand for my product amongst the police force or other government forces. He said that they receive extensive training and that a product like mine would serve little use for them.
Reflection:
         Many of the assumptions that I had made earlier were correct. I did not really think that the police force or any other government force would have much of a use for my product since they were all so well trained. The interviews I made for the previous section only confirmed my doubts about these potential customers.
         My existing market seems to be much more attractive than the second market that I tried to come up with. My existing market has a lot less gun training and they also have children around which should make them more cautious about firearm safety. I was not really surprised with what I learned through these interviews and I believe that I will stick with the initial market that I identified.

  1. I agree with that targeting all people who have guns is very important. Gun safety should be very important for all gun owners not just the people who have kids. It is important to understand that not every person you interview will have the same perspective. This can be very helpful in understanding the different perspectives people have. I agree I think the existing market you want to target would be better but this market is not a bad one to consider. Great job.

  2. I agree that the police force and government would not be the best market to target because they already have the tools necessary to secure their firearms. I think that your existing market is good, and I also agree that your next step should be to extend into other products. I think there are a lot of options to help keep people safe with their firearms. It is more important today than ever before that people pay more attention to safety.

    I find it interesting that your interviewees had such opposing views in terms of expansion and I like the confidence you show when committing to expanding your product line. I also agree that your primary target market should be of focus. Like you stated, and like your interviewees stated, government officials and military personnel already have extensive training (or at least we hope they do) to handle firearms safely. Great post and great product!
