Idea Napkin No. 2
Who I am: My name
is Arsenio Viera, I come from Miami and I am a first year student here at the
University of Florida studying Business Administration, General Studies. Some
of the skills that I believe that I have are a strong drive to do what I set
out to, passion for the different projects or products that I work on, and a
creative mindset. If I were to start this business, I do not believe that it
would have a major role in my life, as I one day hope to work in real estate.
What I am Offering to
Customers: The product that I am offering to my customers is relatively
simple: a gun lock. My gun lock will be different from all of the others currently
available on the market because this lock will not be unlockable through a key,
code, or even a fingerprint; my lock will be unlockable through a verbal
password. This will meet my customers unmet needs for three reasons. The first
is simple, they need to secure their guns. The second reason is that a physical
key or code allows children access if they are able to find the key. The third
reason is that my lock will allow multiple access as long as they know the
password whereas the fingerprint lock only allows the registration of one
fingerprint.
Who I am offering it
to: I would be offering my product to all people who own guns or keep guns
in their household. More specifically I would be targeting gun owners with children
who keep their guns in the house either for protection or for recreational use
(hunting, skeet shooting). These customers would be the best target because they
not only have guns but they also have children who can stumble upon the guns
and hurt themselves. The things that all of my customers would have in common
is that they own guns and have a need to keep those guns inaccessible
sometimes.
Why they care: My
customers will care about my product for one very important reason: safety. All
of the recent shootings taking place have definitely worried parents all around
the country about the dangers of guns. This will make them want to be absolutely
certain that this will never happen to own their children. One way to ensure
this would be by making sure that the guns they keep in their house would be
completely inaccessible by their children. My product would not only protect
the children that may get access to the guns but will also give parents peace
of mind.
What my core competencies
are: What will completely set me apart from the rest of the competition is
that my gun lock will be the safest on the market. Most lock require a key that
children can get a hold of, my verbal password would not allow that. Also, the
fingerprint lock technology can only register one fingerprint which means only
one person will have access to the firearm.
I believe that all of these elements would fit very well
together. These elements should all fit well together because there is a
definite need for my product. With one of the largest school shootings taking
place a few hours from us a little more than a month ago and the school shooting
that happened today in Maryland, parents will be on high alert and will do
anything they can to make sure their children are safe.
The two main points that I got back I got in feedback was
that mentioning all of the shooting was a good idea, and that my plan seemed a
little underdeveloped. Since the mentioning of the recent tragedies boded well
for me I tried to mention a lot more this time. To solve the second issue, I tried
explaining my product and my potential customers better than last time.
Hopefully this improved my idea napkin.
I think your idea napkin is definitely more thorough this time. This is a good product idea! I think you need to pay attention a little more to what is going to motivate people to purchase the lock, though. I think that responsible gun owners probably already have their guns locked up safely, whereas the people who do not have their's safely locked up will probably not be likely to change. I think you need an incentive to get people to switch to your product over the ones that are already on the market. Overall, though, this was a good second attempt at the idea napkin!
ReplyDeleteHello!
ReplyDeleteThis is a really descriptive idea napkin and I think you did great! I enjoy your product as it will provide more security in terms of gun ownership, but as Catherine stated, how will careless gun owners be driven to drive this. Likewise, what would happen if children learn the verbal password? I think an edit that can be made to your product is that rather than unlocking to a certain password, it unlocks via voice recognition. Regardless, great post and great idea!
