Testing the Hypothesis Pt. 2
·
Who:
Through my interviews, I was able to identify multiple groups of people who
COULD have been included in my market but in reality fell outside of it.
o
The first group were some gun owners without
children; the second and third people I interviewed fell into this category.
This group of people seem not to need this product because they do not have
children who they need to worry about and because they probably trust
themselves or whoever they live with to safely use a firearm.
o
Another
person I spoke with was a sort of gun collector and said that he would not buy
the lock if it was built into the guns. This is understandable because the lock
could lower the collecting value of a gun. However, he said that if the lock
was a separate thing all together then he could see himself buying it.
o
Other than these groups of people I was able to find
some parents that said they would not buy this lock because they have enough
trust in themselves and their children to not misuse the gun. Another parent I spoke
to said that he may have bought it when his children were younger, but now that
they are older he says that it would not be necessary for him.
·
What:
When I mentioned that I was trying to stop accidental child shootings AND
school shooting one of my interviewees told me something that I had not thought
of. Some school shootings are not done by the children themselves but by an
outside person, often times an adult. While this is true, there are still many
school shootings committed by students
/children (Columbine, Umpqua College, etc.). So although I wont be able to
solve that problem in it’s entirety I can still do a lot to help.
·
Why: I
guess some people simply do not need the product because they trust that they
and those who they care about are safe around firearms and do not to keep them
from anyone.

Inside the boundary
|
Outside the boundary
|
Who
|
Parents with guns; gun owners; anyone who owns a gun
|
Gun
collectors; parents with older children
|
What
|
To limit access to children; to allow multiple people use of gun; to
help reduce school shootings
|
Stop
all school shootings; completely eliminate all gun related child deaths
|
Why
|
Make guns safer for children; make the world a safer place
|
Eliminate
all gun violence in the world
|
Although my audience may not be as large as I had
initially imagined, there definitely is still a large opportunity for my
product.
Hey,
ReplyDeleteI feel like your interviews were able to give you a good idea of who is in your market. At first it was parents who owned a gun, but now it is parents with young children who would be more interested in buying the product. I feel like narrowing down your market they way you did will help you understand your customers a bit better.
