Solving the Problem

The problem I am trying to come up with a solution for is children harming themselves with guns. The most common occurrence of this is a child accidentally shooting themselves or someone around them while playing with a gun. Unfortunately, school shootings are becoming more and more common and when committed by children, they are often times done so with a gun that was in the household. So I guess the problem I am really trying to solve is allowing adults to have a firearm in the house without fearing that their children may harm themselves or others with it.

Recently, there has been a gun in development that is locked by fingerprint and can only be unlocked when the person’s own finger is on the lock/trigger. Although this product largely solves the problem, I believe that it can still be improved. If the person whose fingerprint can unlock the gun is not home and a criminal invades their home, the rest of the family is rendered helpless because the gun can only be unlocked by that individual.

I came up with an idea that allows firearms to be present in the home without allowing access to children yet allowing more than the one person to use it. Using the same concept for the fingerprint lock, we could implement a voice lock instead; rather than being unlocked by a person’s fingerprint, the gun is unlocked when a person says a certain word or phrase. All the parents would have to do is agree upon a word that will unlock the firearm and keep that word a secret from the children. If the children do find out then they simply change the word. This would allow more than one person to use the gun in an emergency and make sure that children do not have access to it otherwise.

I think this product would be essential if you are a parent and have a gun in the house. This does almost nothing to hinder the gun while almost certainly protecting tour children from harming themselves or others.
