Who I am: My name is Arsenio Viera and I️ am a freshman here at the University of Florida and I️ am pursuing a dual degree in Business Administration General Studies and Economics. I have many skills, some of which include creativity, leadership, and a passion in my product. My true aspirations in life would honestly not rely heavily on my business idea that I️ am pitching but this business idea would be a great experience for me and would get me better acquainted with entrepreneurship.

What I am offering to customers: The product I️ am offering to customers is relatively simple: a voice activated gun lock. This product will basically be an upgrade to a standard gun lock which is unlocked with a key of some sort and even to the newly released fingerprint gun locks. For individuals, I️ am solving the unmet need of multiple people being able to use the gun while still making sure the gun can be kept around children safely; this in turn will likely lower the number of children deaths due to firearms.

Who I am offering it to: This product will be offered to anyone and everyone who has a gun; however I️ believe that the demographic of people who need it most are parents who own firearms (especially those with younger children). This product is offered to help make firearms safer, which will be widely welcomed with all of the recent issues related to gun safety. The two things that all of my customers will have in common are that they will all own guns and that they all are looking for a way to keep them safely in their homes.

Why they care: I believe the main reason that my customers will care is because of the rising rates of gun violence and accidental gun deaths (especially around children). My product offers a way to solve problems that are growing in today’s society. Although no one really likes to speak about this subject, school shootings are becoming both more often and more deadly. Many children are dying thanks to a child who opens fire during class. Many of these shooters have access to these guns and are able to commit these atrocities because they have parents at home who do not keep their guns locked away safely. My product can help solve that problem and potentially save the lives of countless children.

My core competencies: The one thing that sets me apart from everyone else is that my lock will offer the most safety while still allowing multiple people to use it. All locks offer the same amount of safety but not all are equal. The problem with the average gun lock is that it requires a key to open. While one can make multiple keys to allow multiple people access, a key can always be stolen allowing anyone to use the gun. The problem with the fingerprint lock is that with the current technology only one fingerprint can be registered. So if someone else needs to use the gun in an emergency they cannot. My lock takes the best of both worlds, requiring a code that can be shared by multiple people but cannot be stolen like a key. This will allow multiple people access to the gun and still ensuring that the gun will be safe.

I believe that theses elements all fit well together. In think that most of the elements of my are plan all fit well together because there is a legitimate need for my product. As I️ wrote this, I️ got an update that there was a school shooting that killed 17 people in South Florida. Although this is obviously a tragedy, it exemplifies the need for my product that would bring down gun violence. I believe that my business plan is solid and that my product has a solid chance if it goes to market.
