Finding Out Buyer Behavior Part 1

1.     Choosing a segment: I decided to choose parents with children who owned or considered owning a gun or guns. I chose this segment because I believe that it will be the largest of my segments. All of the people I interviewed were all parents but the ages and number of their children varied. The first two people I interviewed were male and the third was female. All three of the interviewees were gun owners or lived with someone who is.
2.     Find three people to interview: The three people I interviewed were all parents with children whose ages varied. All three of the interviewees were gun owners or lived with people who were gun owners.
3.     Begin with need awareness: I made sure that all three of my interviewees had the unmet need that my product offered: gun safety. I made sure of this because these people both had guns and children. Even if the interviewees only had guns they would have had the unmet need but the fact that they have children makes their need even greater.
4.     Move to information search: The first thing that the interviewees would do once they are aware of their need is they would search on the internet for a product that would offer the same kind of safety that my product would offer. This of course would be a form of gun lock.
5.     Report the findings of your search: What I learned in my interview is that there is definitely a growing concern with the lack of gun safety and that people would definitely consider buying my product. The three interviews all came to the subject of the recent school shooting in Broward. All three interviewees agreed that these incidents needed to stop and believed that my product could get the job done. The three interviews were all very similar to each other presumably because of raised tensions thanks to the recent school shooting.

6.     Conclusion: What I was able to conclude form the interviews was that there is a definite need for my product and others like it. It seems that many people, even gun owners, are becoming increasingly worried about gun safety in the country. With all of the shootings happening lately, people are becoming paranoid and agree that measures have to be taken to combat this spike in gun violence.

  1. Hi,
I think you made a great point about picking people who have guns and children to prove the point of safety as an unmet need. I like how you in your segment you chose parents because teens and children should not have the ability to handle guns. As you stated, gun safety is very important. The unfortunate school shootings have really pressured the government to consider gun laws and gun safety. Your product may be able to attract many users due to the increased awareness on safety.
