Bug List

Below is a list of 20 bugs that I was able to identify off the top of my head:

1.     Having to bike very slowly through Turlington Plaza everyday on my way to class.
·      I believe that this bug exists because Turlington Plaza is basically the central of the University of Florida so it is always packed with students and people advertising for various clubs.
2.     How cold it is in many of the large classrooms and auditoriums.
·      I believe that this bug exists because in large classrooms and auditoriums usually have a lot of students in them so the air conditioning has to over compensate so the classroom does not get too hot; the only problem is that whenever I am in one of the larger auditoriums it is usually nearly empty
3.     How long the line is at the Jamba Juice at Turlington Plaza.
·      This bug exists mainly for two reasons. The first is that Turlington Plaza is always packed because it is the center of UF and students are always passing through. The second reason is that the Jamba Juice at Turlington is the only one on campus.
4.     How slow the Wi-Fi in my apartment can be sometimes.
·      This bug doesn’t always happen but when it does it can be very frustrating, especially when I am doing schoolwork. I believe this bug happens because I sometimes have multiple devices hooked up to my Wi-Fi so the strength of the signal is not as strong.
5.     Having to constantly clean my glasses.
·      As a person who has worn glasses since I was ten years old, I can confidently say this is one of the most annoying bugs dealing with glasses. I believe that this happens so frequently because dust settles on the lenses and because I accidently touch the lenses from time to time.
6.     How long the lines are to get into nightlife around UF
·      I believe this bug exists because there is such a large number of people that want to out but the venues can only fit a certain number of people. This results in ridiculously long lines to get into places
7.     Getting citations for riding bike at night without a light.
·      This bugs me because I ride bike everywhere but I understand why this bug exists. This exists to encourage bike riders to buy bike lights so that when they bike at night.
8.     How crowded the gym is at the beginning of the year.
·      With over 50,000 students, the gyms at The University of Florida are already packed, but this rises to a ridiculous level at the beginning of the year. This bug exists because many students make New Year’s Resolutions to get into shape. Another reason for this bug is that at the beginning of the semester there is not too much work so students go to the gym just to kill time.
9.     How expensive textbooks are.
·      This bug probably exists because of all the time and effort that the authors put in to making the text.
10.  How far the Southwest Recreation Center is.
·      This bug probably exists because Southwest was probably added much later in UF’s history so the only place they had left for something that large was far from the center of campus
11.  How strict the parking is in Gainesville
·      This bug exists because of so many people living in such a small place. If the parking restrictions were not as strict most people would not be able to park where they lived because the large number of cars.
12.  How expensive it is to eat healthy food.
·      This bug exists because eating unhealthy food like fast food is much cheaper so more people choose that over healthy food, making it more expensive for those who want to eat it
13.  How crowded with unwanted emails my email account is.
·      The main reason for this is because whenever I make an account somewhere I usually put the same email but forget to unsubscribe from their weekly newsletter so I continue to receive their mail.
14.  How difficult it is to bike home with my groceries.
·      The reason this bug exists for me is because I never purchased any kind of device that would make it easier for me to carry my groceries on my bike, instead I just carry them on my handlebars which throws me off balance.
15.  Long lines at the TSA checkpoints.
·      This bug exists because TSA has to thoroughly inspect every passenger to make sure no one smuggles any sort of weapon onto the plane. Anyone can be a threat so they have to make sure to inspect everyone.
16.  No way to contact a taxi after you leave it.
·      If you ever forget your phone or wallet in a taxi it is almost impossible to reach them. This bug probably exists because taxis only have one job which is to get you from one place to another. I would imagine they would not want to get constantly contacted by past customers.
17.  The struggle you have to go through if you forget your password for an account
·      This issue exists to secure one’s account and personal information. However, it is still a hassle, especially if you do not remember the account information for your email either.
18.  Not being able to drop or add classes after the first week.
·      This issue exists because the university does not want you to be behind if you add a class so they ban you from doing it after the first week. This is still an issue because for many classes the first week is different from how the rest of the class will be carried out.
19.  Security guards not being allowed to take pictures for you.
·      When we went up to the Empire State Building we were the only people up there but we were not able to get a group photo because security guards are not allowed to take photos. This bug probably exists so that guards do not get distracted by taking photos and so that they keep doing their jobs.
20.   That dorms do not allow you to stay during breaks
·      This bug is annoying because sometime you may want to come up to college during the break for a few days but now you have no place to sleep. I believe this glitch may exist because it gives those who upkeep the dorm to make sure all the rooms are up to standard; that is probably much easier when none of the students are there anymore.

I found this exercise surprisingly difficult. At first I thought this assignment would take me half an hour but after I named about seven or eight bugs I realized that I could not name any more. Also the bugs I did name usually had something to do with an activity I had done that day. For example the first couple had to do with going to class. Then on the weekend I went to New York for my birthday and was able to identify bugs about my experience there. I believe that this exercise was so difficult for me because I am not used to looking at the little errors in the world. I found that as I continued down the list it got easier and easier for me to name bugs. This exercise definitely made me look at the world in a new way.

  1. Hi Arsenio,
I agree, coming up with the first half of the bugs was not that challenging but the second half really was a tough task. As an RA, I think an interesting bug you chose was your last one. It is not that residents can't stay in the dorms over break it is just not encouraged. If one were to want to stay over break there would be a extra fee as housing staff members would have to stay as well to ensure everything is properly handled. One bug I agree with is #17. With so many accounts, username and password regulations it sometimes very hard to remember every password. Overall, I enjoyed reading your post!

  2. Hi,
I completely agree with your bug of having to constantly clean your glasses. It becomes so annoying having to clean them so often. I am from Miami, where it is very humid, and I especially do not like it when my glasses begin to fog up and I have to clean my glasses constantly throughout the day. Also, I agree with your reflection. I found it extremely difficult to come up with 20 bugs.
